Visual & Performing Arts

At Madison No. 1 Middle School, students immerse themselves in creative exploration through a variety of visual and performing arts electives, including dance, theater, choir, and art classes. Students have access to
dance floors and theater spaces, where they develop their artistic talents.

In addition to the typical electives (Physical Education, Band, Music, Art, Technology, and Spanish), Madison No. 1 offers Theatre, Dance, Strings, and Choir. Students participate in these additional electives based on their current ability level rather than their grade level. Multi-grade Advanced classes allow No. 1 to offer Advanced and Performance classes such as Wind Symphony, Performance Dance, Advanced Acting, Crew (backstage theatre), and specialized art classes.

Spanish Immersion

The Spanish Immersion program at Madison No. 1 Middle School is the continuation of our Spanish offering for our 5th through 8th grade students. In Madison No. 1 Middle School’s Spanish Immersion program, students receive half of their academic content in Spanish, participate in a Spanish acquisition class that focuses on fun and engaging activities that utilize the Spanish language, and enjoy a dedicated Spanish engagement game room. By the end of their 8th-grade year, Spanish Immersion students emerge as confident, culturally experienced, fluent Spanish speakers and may be eligible to receive up to two years of high school foreign language credit.
